Welcome Baby Kaitlyn

I guess it is time I updated the blog since we are now a family of 3. Kaitlyn was born November 2. Here is her birth story:

On September 20, 2010 I went to see my mid-wife for my pre-natal visit (33 weeks pregnant) and I told her I had been having some cramping and pressure but was told by other moms this was normal. Well, it wasn't normal for me, I was 80% effaced and was taken out of work and placed on bedrest. We had decided at 25 weeks that we were going to do a home birth, but in order for us to have a home birth, we had to make it to at least 37 weeks. Bed rest was very difficult for me especially since I was planning on working a little while longer.

On October 8, 2010, I started going into labor. We were able to get it stopped with a warm bath and more rest. At that time I was placed on complete bedrest. October 17th was our "safe" date that we were trying to make it to.

October 23, 2010, I went into labor again, it lasted all day. By this time I was 100% effaced and dilated to 5 1/2 cm. My mid-wives came and ended up spending the night. In the morning my labor stopped. Labor for 24 hours and then no baby is not fun.

I did not start going into labor again until early in the morning on November 1, 2010. Again labored all day and I feared it stopping again, but it just intensified that night and was very intense around 7am November 2. I planned on having a water birth but did not work out that way. I was in hard labor for about 3 hours and pushed for 1 hour, this was after over 30 hours of labor.

She was born November 2, 2010 at 11am. After all that work, my uterus decided it was done working so I lost a lot of blood due to hemorrhaging. My mid-wife was prepared for this though so all went well. I was definitely exhausted. It took me almost a week to where I was able to get up and walk by myself.

Kaitlyn is so incredibly wonderful and such a blessing. Her name means pure. While I was on bedrest, I cried out to God so many times needing to hear from Him that this baby was going to be ok and that we were. He was so faithful in answering and pouring out His promises, we chose Elizabeth for her middle name. Elizabeth means God's promise. The main verse I clung to was 2 Tim 1:7 "For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind."
